Viking Youth Soccer Academy/Holmen Parks & Rec

This is a youth recreational soccer league. The league currently includes the following cities: Arcadia, Bangor, Caledonia, Decorah, Holmen, Melrose-Mindoro, Onalaska, Sparta, La Crescent, Tomah and West Salem. Not all communities have teams at each level; so teams will not necessarily travel to all communities listed.

Ages and Abilities
- 1st – 8th Grade Boys & Girls
- Grouped with like grade level and gender
- Combined grade teams will only be formed if there are not enough registrants at a particular level. A specific birth year does not apply for this league.
- Focus on basic skill development, teamwork and beginning game play strategy/tactics

Required Equipment
- Shin guards (worn under socks)
- Soccer socks
- Warm clothes when the weather is cold, to be worn under jerseys

Practices
- March – May, first week of practice end of March (weather dependent), last weekend at the end of May
  - Practice 2x/week
  - Schedule will be determined by coaches and communicated to families
    - 1st-4th Grade Tuesday/Thursday 5:30-6:30 or 6:30-7:30
    - 5th-8th Grade TBD
    - Practice locations TBD – coaches will communicate to families

Coaches
- We need YOU! Please consider coaching – Registration fee will be waived for anyone that is willing to coach
- If you are willing to coach, please email recreation@holmenvysa.com
- A coaching guidebook will be provided at the beginning of the season
- A coaches meeting/clinic will be held prior to the season starting
- All necessary equipment will be provided

Team Placements
- Players will be notified of their team placement after the registration period is complete and the coach has been determined. If a coach is not in place by the end of the registration period an email will be sent to all parents at that level requesting a coach.

Game Play
- Game play begins mid-April (weather permitting) and continues through the mid-May
- Games can be scheduled for Saturdays and/or Sundays
- Jerseys will be provided prior to the first game. Players will keep these at the end of the season.

Regulations by Age
- 1ST AND 2ND GRADE
  - play 4 vs 4. No goalie
  - Play four 12 minute quarters, 2 minutes between 1/2 and 3/4 quarter and 5 minute halftime
  - Field size will be 25 * 35
- 3RD AND 4TH GRADE
  - play 7 vs 7 with goalie (one of the 7 players)
  - play two 25 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime
  - field size will be 40 * 50
- 5TH AND 6TH GRADE (if numbers allow)
  - play 9 vs 9 with goalie (one of the 9 players)
  - play two 30 minute halves with 10 minute halftime
  - field size will be 80 * 45
- 7TH AND 8TH GRADE (if numbers allow)
  - play 11 vs 11 with goalie (one of the 11 players)
  - play two 35 minute halves with 10 minute halftime
  - field size will be 110 * 55
